Brazilian voice acting is mourning the reported death of Ettore Zuim, a veteran dubbing artist whose distinctive voice became familiar to generations of viewers through major films, television productions, animation and video games. Zuim was 66 years old when he died on Friday, September 4, 2026.

His death was confirmed by the Associação Brasileira de Dubladores, known as DUBLAR, which shared a tribute to the longtime performer and extended condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and admirers.

Zuim built a career spanning more than four decades and became especially recognized for providing Brazilian Portuguese voices for internationally known characters and actors. Among his most famous roles was Bruce Wayne and Batman in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, including Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.

He also continued portraying Batman in video games, including Batman: Arkham and Injustice: Gods Among Us. His work, however, extended well beyond Gotham City.

Zuim provided the Brazilian voice of Hercules in Disney’s animated film Hercules and portrayed Prince Charming in the Shrek franchise. His extensive résumé also included Patrick Bateman in American Psycho, John Connor in Terminator Salvation, Gil in Midnight in Paris and John Beckwith in Wedding Crashers.

Animation and anime audiences also recognized his work as Ozai in Avatar: The Last Airbender and Dracule Mihawk in One Piece. He was additionally associated with Brazilian Portuguese performances for actors including Christian Bale, Owen Wilson and Antonio Banderas.

Beyond his work behind the microphone, Zuim contributed to the dubbing profession as a director and teacher. Through those roles, he helped guide other performers and shared his experience with people entering or developing their careers in voice acting.

The specific cause of Zuim’s death has not been publicly confirmed. Although reports have referenced health difficulties in recent years, including a diagnosis of peripheral arterial occlusive disease in 2023, there has been no official confirmation connecting that condition to his death.

Tributes began emerging from colleagues and fans following the announcement. Fellow voice actor Guilherme Briggs remembered Zuim and highlighted the professional and personal impact he had on people within the industry, recalling moments shared in recording studios.

DUBLAR also honored Zuim’s unique voice and artistic contribution, emphasizing the lasting legacy he leaves for Brazilian dubbing.
