A fatal collision on Autoroute 640 in Bois-des-Filion, Quebec, claimed the life of a young driver early Friday morning, September 4, 2026. The three-vehicle crash also left two other people with minor injuries and caused a significant traffic disruption in the area.

The collision occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Autoroute 640, near kilometre 28 and the Autoroute 335 overpass. Emergency crews responded to the scene after three vehicles became involved in the incident.

According to reports citing the Sûreté du Québec, the young driver, who was under 18, apparently lost control of his vehicle. The exact reason he lost control remains under investigation. His vehicle struck a guardrail before coming to rest on the highway.

Young Driver Struck After Leaving Vehicle

Following the initial collision, the young driver reportedly exited his damaged vehicle. While he was outside, he was struck by another vehicle traveling along the highway.

The young victim suffered critical injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. He later died from his injuries.

Two other people involved in the three-vehicle collision sustained minor injuries. At least one of those individuals was transported to hospital, although the injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Authorities have not publicly identified the young driver in the reports reviewed.

Highway 640 Closed During Investigation

The serious crash resulted in a complete closure of the eastbound lanes while emergency responders and collision investigators worked at the scene. Investigators examined the roadway and gathered evidence as they attempted to reconstruct the sequence of events.

The circumstances surrounding the second impact remain an important part of the investigation. Authorities are working to establish why the approaching driver apparently did not see the young man in the roadway and determine how the separate collisions unfolded.

Officials have not attributed the crash to speeding, distracted driving, impairment or another specific factor. Those possibilities remain matters for investigators to assess, and no conclusions should be drawn until the investigation is complete.

The incident also highlights the dangers that can arise when a vehicle becomes disabled or involved in a collision on a busy highway. Drivers who leave their vehicles can face serious risks from passing traffic, particularly during early-morning hours when visibility and reaction time may be reduced.

For the young victim’s family and loved ones, the September 4 crash has resulted in a devastating loss. A roadway incident that began with a vehicle losing control ultimately became a fatal tragedy.

The Sûreté du Québec continues investigating the collision on Autoroute 640. Additional information, including the identity of the victim and further details about the circumstances, may be released as the investigation progresses.
