The Wooster, Ohio, community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 11-year-old Emmet Sauers, who was killed Friday night after a pickup truck crashed into the residential home where he was inside.

The devastating incident occurred at approximately 11:50 p.m. Friday, September 4, 2026, along State Route 302, also known as Madison Avenue, in Wayne County. Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Wooster Post responded following reports of a serious crash involving entrapment.

According to the Highway Patrol’s preliminary investigation, a white 2007 Ford F-250 was traveling northwest along Madison Avenue when it left the eastern side of the roadway. The pickup then crashed into a residential structure.

Emmet was inside the home when the vehicle struck the building. He suffered fatal injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup was identified as 18-year-old Karas M. Wedge of Seville. Wedge survived the crash and reportedly sustained minor injuries before being transported to Wooster Community Hospital for treatment.

For Emmet’s family, the loss is immeasurable. At only 11 years old, he had so much of his life ahead of him. His sudden death has left relatives, friends and members of the Wooster community struggling to process a tragedy that occurred in the middle of the night.

The incident has also prompted a continuing investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Authorities are working to determine why the pickup truck left the roadway and what factors may have contributed to the crash. No additional conclusions about the cause should be assumed while the investigation remains ongoing.

Several agencies assisted with the emergency response, including the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Wooster Police Department, Wooster Township Fire and EMS, Wooster Fire and EMS, Wayne County Coroner’s Office, American Red Cross, AEP and Rigz Towing.

As investigators continue their work, Emmet’s loved ones are left to remember him and the life he shared with those around him. His passing has brought profound sorrow to a family and community now facing the difficult task of saying goodbye to a child whose life ended far too soon.
