WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. — September 5, 2026 — One person has died following a reported shooting in Wrightsville Beach Saturday afternoon, prompting a major law enforcement response and a shelter-in-place order for people in parts of the community.
Authorities were called to the area shortly after noon following reports of a weapon-related incident. Multiple law enforcement agencies, along with emergency medical and fire-rescue personnel, responded as officers worked to secure the area.
Heavy Police Presence on North Lumina Avenue
A significant emergency response was reported along North Lumina Avenue, where numerous sheriff’s deputies, police officers, ambulances and fire-rescue vehicles gathered.
Police blocked portions of the roadway while investigators and other emergency personnel worked at the scene. A mobile command unit was also reportedly being positioned in the area, with additional law enforcement vehicles seen near Access 5.
Authorities restricted access to the northern portion of North Lumina Avenue as the investigation continued.
Shelter-in-Place Order Issued
Law enforcement instructed people in the Surf Club and Wrightsville Beach areas to shelter in place while officers worked to determine whether there was any continuing threat.
